Reimagining a classic novel

The cover design beautifully evokes the classic charm of a storybook, centered around the lamppost that stands as a gateway between worlds. The glowing lamppost instantly signals magic and mystery, inviting the reader into the enchanting land of Narnia. Its warm light contrasts with the cold, wintry palette, symbolizing hope. The title and layout are clean and timeless, with a vintage feel that echoes traditional children’s book illustrations. Together, the imagery and design promise a tale of wonder, courage, and transformation, true to the spirit of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.

Challenges

One of the main challenges I faced in designing this cover was capturing a unique perspective on a story that is already so iconic and familiar to many. With The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe being such a classic, I wanted to create something that felt new, something that offered a different “vibe” from the traditional covers we’re used to seeing. Instead of relying on dramatic character scenes or action, I focused on atmosphere and subtle storytelling through imagery. The lamppost became a central symbol, not just for its role in the story, but for its ability to evoke mystery, wonder, and quiet magic. Balancing that minimalist approach with the richness of Narnia’s world was both challenging and rewarding, pushing me to think more creatively about composition, color, and emotional tone.
